  • The first celebrated father's day was said to be held on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington.

A woman who went by the name Sonora Dodd first proposed the idea as a way to honor her father who raised six kids after his wife died giving birth to their sixth child.

  • Was not widely recognized for many years following its proposal.

Congress actually coerced former President Woodrow Wilson to not participate in the Father's Day ceremony in 1916 in Spokane. It wasn't until 1966 that former President Lyndon Johnson made an official statement saying that Father's Day shall be recognized on the third Sunday of June. Former President Richard Nixon signed a bill into law that made Father's Day a permanent national holiday.

  • One of the biggest days of the year

Father's Day has been confirmed to be the fourth largest holiday for sending greeting cards. The holiday has even gained an official flower - the rose.

Just want to end with a quick shout out and Happy Father's Day to all the fathers across the world!

Sincerely,

The True Visions Team
